Windows 11 introduces Smart App Control as an extra security layer

Smart App Control blocks suspicious applications before they are executed, with minimal impact on system performance.

Microsoft expands the security capabilities of Windows 11 with Smart App Control. This feature evaluates applications before execution and prevents the startup of potentially harmful software. Unlike traditional antivirus software, Smart App Control works proactively and with less strain on the system.

Proactive security

Smart App Control uses AI and cloud data to analyze applications based on behavior and reputation. The system compares new apps with a database of trusted and known malicious applications. As a result, it can block the execution of suspicious software before it becomes active.

Traditional antivirus solutions usually scan only after software installation or execution. They often work reactively and use detection based on existing malware signatures. This means they may detect new or unknown threats only later.

Because Smart App Control does not perform continuous scans, the impact on the system remains limited. Users therefore experience fewer delays while working. With classic antivirus software, there is a higher chance of performance loss, as these solutions constantly check files.

Does not replace traditional antivirus software

Microsoft emphasizes that the feature is not a replacement for a full-fledged antivirus solution, which is still necessary for complete protection. Microsoft makes Smart App Control available by default in recent versions of Windows 11.
