WhatsApp is rolling out a feature to provide extra protection for certain accounts against advanced cyberattacks. The ‘strict account settings’ allow users to activate the strictest security settings.

WhatsApp launches ‘strict account settings,’ a new option with which the company wants to provide extra security to certain users. This includes journalists, public figures, or other high-risk individuals. Enabling the option also immediately changes the way WhatsApp works. The feature will be available in the coming weeks.

Extra security layer

A cyberattack can affect anyone, but according to WhatsApp, certain high-risk individuals require a higher degree of security. However, this feature may also be useful for you.

Be aware that enabling this feature changes the way WhatsApp works. When ‘strict account settings’ is activated, you immediately block attachments and media from people who are not in your contact list. Moreover, you cannot simply be called via Whatsapp.
