Cisco introduces AI Defense. That solution should protect companies from the dangers of AI deployments. These include data breaches, misuse of AI tools and other new threats that traditional security solutions cannot address.
Cisco AI Defense addresses two key risks: securing AI development and protecting access to AI applications. The platform provides enterprises with a unified layer of security for AI use, regardless of model or cloud environment.
Development and use
When developing and deploying AI applications, AI Defense helps developers minimize security risks. The system is said to detect both approved and unauthorized AI applications, and validates AI models for potential vulnerabilities. Automated tests identify potential risks and provide security teams with recommendations to mitigate them. In addition, the solution provides continuous protection against threats such as prompt-injection attacks, denial-of-service and data breaches.

AI Defense also provides additional security measures for end users deploying AI tools. The solution provides visibility into which AI applications are being used within an organization and enables security teams to restrict access to unauthorized AI tools. Furthermore, with AI Defense, Cisco seeks to protect confidential data and the platform helps companies comply with regulations.
Integration into Security Cloud
Cisco AI Defense is integrated into Cisco’s Security Cloud and leverages threat intelligence from Cisco Talos. The solution works with existing security systems and provides additional context for Splunk users through enriched notifications. According to Cisco, the network-based approach allows AI security to be applied more broadly and efficiently.
Cisco AI Defense becomes available in March and is part of a suite of AI-driven security solutions from the company.
