Belgium was one of the only European member states to transpose the NIS2 regulation into national law on time. Besides Belgium, only Croatia is on time.

The time has come: the NIS2 law officially enters into force today. The deadline for member states to transpose the European Union legal framework into their national legislation has thus passed. Belgium met the deadline, which is rather exceptional in Europe.

The European Union shares an overview showing how far along member states are in transposing the NIS regulation into their own codes. Besides Belgium, we see that only Croatia has yet managed to transpose the law into local law on time. All other countries are still working hard. The Netherlands, for example, would not have its homework ready until the third quarter of 2025, Tweakers knows .

Deadline missed

The guidelines for NIS2 were put out by the European Union at the end of 2022. That is just the start of a whole legal and administrative mill to get the European framework adapted into binding rules at the national level. So two years later, a lot of countries are not ready for NIS2, even though the deadline has now officially passed.
