Atos denies that hackers made off with company data after an attack on its own systems, but admits that Atos data was leaked in a third-party hack.
Criminals from hacker group Space Bears claimed late last year that they had captured data from Atos after a successful hack of its digital infrastructure. Atos was given until tomorrow, Jan. 7, to pay a ransom and avoid a data breach. The French IT company now strongly denies that its own systems were effectively cracked.
Atos has investigated the claim and can state with certainty that Space Bears did not penetrate the organization. “No infrastructure managed by Atos was cracked, no source code accessed, and no Atos intellectual property was exposed,” it sounds. The company further points out that it employs 6,500 experts and operates 17 SOCs, which together ensure Atos group security.
Third-party data
Still, Space Bears’ claim does not appear to be entirely off the mark. An unnamed third party was allegedly victimized. That party’s infrastructure is not connected to that of Atos, but the hacked servers would contain data that Atos mentions. Exactly what kind of data is involved, Atos is not saying.
Things have not been going well for Atos for some time. A sale seems to be in the works, but the French government is terrified of letting the company’s critical operations fall into foreign hands. After all, Atos provides solutions ranging from communications and cloud to supercomputers to parts of the French government. Between Christmas and New Year, the French government made another attempt to take over Atos.
