Theft protection features now available on Android

Google’s theft protection features are rolling out incrementally to Android users who have a Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy phone.

Google’s new theft protection features announced earlier this year are now being rolled out globally, according to 9to5Google. These three new theft protection features are Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock and Remote Lock. These allow users to ensure that thieves cannot access sensitive information.

Theft protection

Earlier this year, Google introduced three new anti-theft security features. These features, Theft Detection Lock, Offline Device Lock and Remote Lock, allow you to shield sensitive information from your smartphone, should a thief make off with your smartphone.

Theft Detection Lock automatically analyzes when a device is stolen. For example, when someone grabs the phone from your hands and walks away. When this is detected, the phone will block unwanted access to apps and data.

Offline Device Lock will automatically lock your device if a thief wants to disconnect your phone from the Internet for an extended period of time. Finally, Remote Lock allows you to remotely lock your phone using only your phone number when you can’t sign into “Find My Device” with your Google account password.

You can find the new features in the settings menu under the name Theft protection via Settings, Google and then All services. Or you type theft in the search box of the settings menu, that also works.

Google is rolling out the new theft protection features worldwide. The search giant’s Pixel phones are first up, along with Samsung Galaxy phones. The feature is only available on smartphones. Tablets do not have access to the new feature.
