Proximus becomes the first telecom operator in Belgium to launch Wi-Fi 7 tri-band technology, setting a new standard for Ultra Fiber customers.
Proximus introduces Wi-Fi 7 tri-band for its Ultra Fiber customers. The new internet box aims to enable higher speeds, lower latency, and more stable connections. The rollout begins in late December for Ultra Fiber customers, followed by Giga Fiber customers.
Wi-Fi 7 Tri-Band
Wi-Fi 7 builds upon Wi-Fi 6 and 6E, which became available at Proximus in 2022 and 2024 respectively. Wi-Fi 6 distributes available bandwidth more efficiently across multiple devices and supports WPA3-Personal for enhanced security. Wi-Fi 6E adds the 6 GHz band on top of the existing 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. According to Proximus, this provides more capacity and less interference, which is beneficial in environments with many simultaneous connections.

Wi-Fi 7 tri-band combines multiple frequency bands simultaneously. Combined with bandwidth up to 320 MHz, this enables higher theoretical speeds than Wi-Fi 6 and lower latency. According to Proximus, videos, games, and video calls can start faster, even when many devices are connected simultaneously. The multi-link operation (MLO) is designed to provide smoother connectivity in busy networks.
Internet Box
The new Internet Box + Wi-Fi 7 supports WPA3-Personal and remains compatible with older equipment. The box uses recycled materials, is fanless, and designed for reuse or refurbishment. Proximus reports a reduction in CO₂ footprint of at least fifteen percent compared to the previous generation. Additional features such as eco-mode and support for future updates will follow later.
Phased Rollout until 2026
Following a pilot phase in November, Proximus will begin a phased rollout to Ultra Fiber customers in late December 2025. In the first months of 2026, existing Ultra Fiber customers will be invited to upgrade to the new Internet Box + Wi-Fi 7.
The rollout to Giga Fiber customers is planned for the second half of 2026. IT departments planning their network strategy for 2026 and beyond can take into account support for Wi-Fi 7 equipment in the Proximus portfolio.
