Proximus reaches 14% coverage rate for fiber in 2021

By 2022, the telecom provider wants to grow to 24%. By 2024, the goal is 99% for all Belgian residents.

In its 2021 annual results, Proximus confirms that 31 percent of its capital spending will go to fiber deployment, accounting for approximately 373 million euros. In the last three months of the year, 126,000 additional homes and businesses were connected to fiber. That brings the fiber footprint to 813,000 homes and businesses, good for a coverage rate of nearly 14%.

Guillaume Boutin, Proximus Group CEO: “As for the future, we are ready to further increase our deployment capacity and have the ambition to increase our coverage by 10 percentage points every year from the end of 2022. We want to become the undisputed network leader in Belgium, which is why we are also investing in the rollout of 5G networks, with the goal of covering 99% of Belgium by 2024.”

On the professional side, Enterprise unit sales increased by 1.9 percent, mainly due to higher sales of mobile and ICT services. Overall, the Group’s underlying sales increased by 3.8% to EUR 1,441 million.
