Total revenue from telecom services in Belgium fell by 0.4 percent year-on-year to 1.784 billion euros in the first quarter of 2026. Only broadband showed growth, while fixed and mobile telephony remained under pressure.

The Belgian telecom market had a difficult start to 2026, according to the latest market report from Telecompaper. The 0.4 percent decline in total revenue is mainly attributable to the decrease in fixed and mobile telephony. However, there was a bright spot: broadband services grew by 3.0 percent year-on-year.

Broadband as a growth engine

The increase in broadband revenue is due to price hikes and expanded fiber coverage. Mobile services remained under pressure due to Digi’s low rates, which lowered the average revenue per user. Fixed telephony suffered the most: Telenet lost no fewer than 143,000 fixed telephone lines in the quarter, partly due to a price increase that prompted many customers to cancel.

Shift in bundles and market positions

The transition from quad-play bundles to converged mobile packages is accelerating. The difference between the two bundle types fell to 3.6 percentage points, with the combination of broadband, TV, and mobile threatening to overtake the 4P bundle. Proximus recorded slight growth of 0.3 percent and maintains its leading position with 43.6 percent of total market revenue. Telenet had a difficult quarter due to the loss of fixed telephony customers and the cleanup of inactive mobile SIM cards.

Digi is growing, but impact remains limited

Digi was the only provider to grow on a quarterly basis. However, the market-wide impact remains limited due to its small revenue share and limited fiber coverage. The young company experienced the necessary growing pains in its first year and a half, but seems to be gradually making its mark on the market with its aggressive pricing.
