Nebul installs AI supercluster with 1,000 GPUs in Machelen

European AI cloud provider Nebul has chosen the Datacenter United campus in Machelen to build a new supercluster. The infrastructure will feature more than 1,000 Blackwell Ultra GPUs.

In September, Datacenter United announced that it had signed ‘an agreement for multi-megawatt data centre capacity’. Now the customer can be revealed: Nebul, a Dutch AI provider that focuses on businesses, hospitals and governments. The Machelen site will serve as the basis for a large-scale rollout of computing power that is essential to the cloud provider’s European expansion.

Developing this facility requires a very specific environment. The huge volumes of data and the computing power needed for AI workloads put heavy pressure on the available power and cooling in a data centre.

Advanced hardware and cooling

The supercluster will use GB300 NVL72 systems. These systems rely on Nvidia’s Blackwell Ultra GPUs. Lenovo supplies the server infrastructure needed to make the project technically possible.

Datacenter United is developing a specialised high-density environment to house this hardware. This includes not only the necessary power capacity, but also advanced liquid cooling. This cooling is crucial for managing the heat released by such powerful systems.

In addition to cooling and power, the partner also provides carrier-neutral connectivity. This meets the high demands that large AI workloads place on network connections and infrastructure availability.

Belgium as an AI hub

According to the parties involved, the choice of this Belgian location has broader significance. Friso Haringsma, CEO of Datacenter United, says that Nebul’s decision shows that Belgium can play an important role in the European development of artificial intelligence.

By providing the required power, connectivity and liquid cooling, the infrastructure partner helps turn the cloud provider’s ambitions into reality. The Machelen campus thus acts as an important hub for the digital economy in the region.

With this project, Datacenter United is betting on the growing demand for specialised computing power in Europe. The focus is on offering scalable and secure solutions for organisations that depend on AI technology. The rollout of the supercluster will significantly increase capacity for AI applications in the region. The exact date the systems will go live will follow in the near future.
