LCL Data Centers is partnering with the Dutch company Varity to offer businesses the ability to shield their infrastructure from the open internet.

LCL Data Centers announces a partnership with the Dutch company Varity. Through this, LCL will help customers shield their infrastructure. Via the SCION (Scalability, Control and Isolation on Next-generation Networks) protocol, critical IT environments become invisible to the public internet, ensuring cyberattacks are preventively blocked. Customers also gain more control over their data flows, with options to keep data within European borders.

Varity is a managed security service provider that helps companies design and manage secure, scalable IT infrastructure. The partnership builds on previous initiatives by LCL, such as the integration with Megaport for fast and flexible cloud connectivity. With Varity, an additional layer of security is added that gives companies more control over their network traffic.

Invisibility as a defense

At the core of the new approach is the SCION protocol, a network architecture that completely shields critical IT environments from the open internet. As a result, systems are no longer publicly visible and are only accessible via pre-trusted connections. The approach aims to prevent cyberattacks before they can even begin.

SCION was developed to make data traffic more secure and transparent. The protocol is already mandatory for banks and government agencies in Switzerland. By isolating systems via SCION networks, hackers can no longer gain access to corporate systems. They cannot even scan or target them, as no route exists via the regular internet.

The partnership between LCL Data Centers and Varity comes at a time when both cybersecurity and digital sovereignty are high on the agenda. Companies and organizations are struggling with increasing threats and the pressure to manage their data better. With this partnership, LCL and Varity aim to give organizations an option to reduce the chance of successful attacks.
