OpenAI has begun rolling out its latest AI model, GPT-4.5, for users of the ChatGPT Plus tier.
OpenAI is expanding access to its latest AI model, GPT-4.5, to ChatGPT Plus users. The AI model was first launched for ChatGPT Pro users last week. “We want to give everyone with access to GPT-4.5 a substantial speed limit, but we expect the speed limits to change as demand grows,” the company wrote.
Latest AI Model
OpenAI claims that GPT-4.5 is the largest AI model to date as it has been trained with more computing power and data than all previous models. However, it doesn’t perform better in all areas: on benchmarks, it performs less well than newer reasoning models from DeepSeek, Anthropic, and even OpenAI’s own models.
GPT-4.5 is very expensive to run, so expensive that OpenAI is evaluating whether it wants to continue offering GPT-4.5 in its API in the long term. OpenAI charges $75 per million tokens for input and $150 per million tokens for output. That’s 30 times the cost of GPT-4o. The company is considering whether to keep the model in the API in the long term.
GPT-5 will likely take a while to arrive, as the model does not meet expectations. After 18 months of work, the desired progress that justifies the high costs has not yet been achieved.
