Nutanix brings its platform to AWS’s sovereign cloud

Nutanix is bringing its Government Cloud Clusters to the AWS European Sovereign Cloud (ESC). The solution is available now.

Nutanix is making its Government Cloud Clusters (GC2) available in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud. This allows organisations in regulated sectors to run the Nutanix environment within a sovereign AWS cloud.

To manage the ESC, AWS set up a new European organisation. It keeps customer data and metadata within the EU and owns the underlying infrastructure.

GC2 runs entirely within the customer’s own AWS Virtual Private Cloud, on dedicated nodes. The compute, storage and management layers of the Nutanix clusters stay within those boundaries. This means there is no shared tenancy, and the customer gets a clearly defined perimeter that they can control.

With this, Nutanix extends its Cloud Platform to the AWS infrastructure. Organisations can migrate workloads to the ESC or expand there without overhauling their operating model. New tooling, runbooks and governance frameworks are then not needed.

For strict regulation

Nutanix is targeting organisations with strict compliance requirements, such as financial service providers, healthcare institutions and government bodies. Organisations that still have doubts about the public cloud because of compliance are also a target group.

According to Nutanix, customers can also move workloads back again, for example because of new regulations, a data centre exit, performance requirements or changing costs. This should limit vendor lock-in.
