DeepL adds Clarify, an interactive feature to its translation service to provide context for translations.
The new tool in DeepL allows users to clarify what they mean in ambiguous passages of the source text, which should make translations more accurate.
AI Asks Targeted Questions About Ambiguous Sentences
Clarify makes it possible to better align translations with context. The tool automatically asks users questions when a word, expression, or reference in the source text can have multiple meanings. DeepL aims to optimize the translation together with the user. The feature is available for paying users of DeepL Pro, currently only for English-German and German-English translations.
The AI behind Clarify recognizes vague sections in the source text and actively asks for clarification. This is done based on specialized language models trained with the help of professional language experts. Unlike other AI solutions, Clarify works without manual prompting: the tool thinks independently.
DeepL states that this approach aligns with changing business expectations. Where AI was previously seen mainly as experimental technology, companies are now looking for concrete applications that deliver results. There is a noticeable shift from general AI models to specialized applications, such as translation. More and more companies are combining AI with human oversight, especially in sectors like legal services and manufacturing.
Business Use is Central
DeepL now serves more than 200,000 business customers worldwide. According to DeepL, its translation technology requires on average two to three times fewer adjustments than alternatives like Google Translate or ChatGPT-4 from OpenAI. With Clarify, the company takes a next step in developing its platform. DeepL aims to strengthen the collaboration between humans and AI, so professionals in various sectors can rely on accurate and context-aware translations.
Clarify is available through the web version of DeepL and offers the same security measures as other Pro products. Support for other languages will follow later.
