Claude Can Create and Edit Excel and PDF Files

Claude can now create and edit files on its own. According to Anthropic, this should save users a tremendous amount of time.

Anthropic has implemented a new update for its AI model Claude. From now on, Claude can create and edit Excel spreadsheets, documents, PowerPoint presentations, and PDF files on its own.

Active Collaboration

“We’re giving Claude access to its own computing environment where it can write code and run programs to create the files and analyses you need,” states an announcement from Anthropic. “This evolves Claude from an advisor to an active collaborator.” The recently integrated GitHub integration for Claude Code also focuses on collaboration.

According to Anthropic, users will save hours of work with the new feature. Some common tasks include “building a financial model in Excel, generating a professional report, or performing complex analyses”.

Anthropic advises users to be vigilant and monitor their conversations closely. Since the model gets limited internet access, there’s a chance it could be misled into sending information from projects to malicious parties. As Claude can download and use packages, it’s best to check them before use.

Not yet Available for Free Users

For now, the feature is only available to paying Max, Team, or Enterprise users. Pro and free users will have to be patient a little longer. To try out the feature, check “Upgraded file creation and analysis” in the settings, under the Features, Experimental tab.
