ChatGPT Receives Memory Upgrade and Now Remembers Entire Conversation History

ChatGPT Now Remembers All Details and Context You Shared in Previous Conversations

OpenAI has begun rolling out a new memory function in ChatGPT. Thanks to this update, the chatbot can remember previous conversations and better respond to individual preferences and context. The memory function supports text, speech, and images.

More Personal Conversations

According to OpenAI, ChatGPT would now be much more personal, as users don’t have to repeatedly explain who they are or what they discussed earlier. The new function should make conversations more fluid and relevant, similar to what Google did with memory in Gemini.

The memory function appears in the settings under the name reference saved memories and will initially only be available for ChatGPT Pro and Plus users. Users in the United Kingdom, Europe, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland will have to wait a bit longer: additional external reviews are needed first to comply with local regulations.

What About Your Privacy? Disabling is Possible

If you’d prefer ChatGPT not to remember what was said, you can disable the memory function in the settings. It’s also possible to manage or delete certain memories. OpenAI allows users to see what ChatGPT remembers, or temporarily switch to a temporary chat that doesn’t save anything.

Free users will not get the feature for now. “We are currently focusing on the rollout for paying users,” an OpenAI spokesperson told TechCrunch. Users who had already enabled memory in earlier versions of ChatGPT will have the new feature activated automatically.
