US Imposes Export Ban on Dozens of Chinese Tech Companies

vs china

The American government has imposed more restrictions on exporting computer technology to China.

The US has added 80 organizations to an export blacklist, with more than 50 in China, Iran, Taiwan, Pakistan, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. This is done to prevent China, among others, from acquiring computer technology for military purposes.

Tensions Escalate

According to the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), the restrictions are aimed at companies that ‘endanger national security’. One of these companies is Inspur Group, a large Chinese cloud company and a research institution working on AI. The latter calls the decision unjustified.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs also calls the decision a violation of international rules. Nevertheless, the US stands firm: ‘American technology should never be used against the American people,’ says Secretary of Commerce for Industry and Security Jeffrey Kessler.

Trump has already had a significant impact on the tech sector since the start of his second term as president. His announced import tariffs threaten to make PCs much more expensive. Chips from TSMC factories are to receive 100 percent import duties, and according to Vice President J.D. Vance, the US is the AI leader and Europe must fall in line.
