ChatGPT users will soon be able to make purchases directly through PayPal.
PayPal is integrating its payment system into ChatGPT via the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP). This enables users to make purchases with their PayPal account without leaving the chat environment. OpenAI is simultaneously rolling out Instant Checkout, with PayPal handling payment processing. The integration supports payments via bank accounts, cards, or the PayPal balance. Familiar services such as buyer protection, order tracking, and dispute management will also remain available.
PayPal and OpenAI expect the feature to become more widely available during 2026.
“from Chat to Checkout”
For sellers, this collaboration means their product catalogs will become accessible to users via ChatGPT. PayPal connects its ACP server to ChatGPT, eliminating the need for tens of millions of small and large businesses—including those in apparel, electronics, and home furnishings—to build a separate integration. PayPal’s technical infrastructure automatically manages payment processing, seller routing, and validation.
“By collaborating with OpenAI and applying the Agentic Commerce Protocol, PayPal will enable payments and commerce experiences that help people go from chat to checkout with just a few taps for our joint customer bases,” said Alex Chriss, President and CEO of PayPal.
More than just Payments
The collaboration between the two parties extends beyond payments. PayPal is also expanding its use of OpenAI’s technology to other internal applications. For instance, over 24,000 employees will gain access to ChatGPT Enterprise. Engineers can leverage Codex to support software development. Furthermore, OpenAI’s APIs are being deployed on a larger scale within the company.
Sellers already working with PayPal, or those wishing to do so, can sign up to offer products via ChatGPT. PayPal and OpenAI expect these commercial features to become more widely available during 2026.
