Italy’s data protection authority is fining OpenAI €15 million. As part of the punishment with the ChatGPT maker must also conduct an awareness campaign.

According to the Italian regulator, OpenAI failed to notify the authority of the 2023 data breach, and used personal data to train ChatGPT. The Italian privacy watchdog now announces in a press release that OpenAI will be fined 15 million euros for this. Furthermore, the ChatGPT maker must conduct an information campaign about the use of data to train its chatbot.
