Mistral AI has secured an 830 million dollar loan to finance a new data center near Paris.
The French AI company Mistral is taking on a new loan of 830 million dollars, or 720 million euros, for the purchase of 13,800 Nvidia chips, according to Mistral to Reuters. These chips are intended for a new data center near Paris. This is the first time Mistral has entered into such debt financing. This deal highlights the increasing confidence of investors in European AI companies. Last month, the company invested 1.2 billion euros in an AI data center in Sweden.

Data center in Paris
The new data center will be located in Bruyères-le-Châtel near Paris. This location was selected by the company in February 2025. Mistral will equip the data center with 13,800 Nvidia chips. By the end of 2027, Mistral aims to scale up to 200 MW across Europe.
Behind the financing is a consortium of seven banks, including BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole CIB, HSBC, and MUFG. The data center is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2026.

This new deal is intended to break US dominance, including tech giants like Microsoft and Google. “Scaling our infrastructure in Europe is crucial to empowering our customers and ensuring that AI innovation and autonomy remain central to Europe,” said CEO Arthur Mensch in a statement to Reuters.
