Microsoft will no longer offer new products in Russia. Services from the company will also be shut down.
On Friday, Brad Smith, vice chairman and president of Microsoft, published a blog post announcing on Microsoft’ s behalf that he will no longer sell products in Russia. “We announce today that we will suspend sales of new Microsoft products and services in Russia.”
According to Smith, the company is thus following government recommendations to keep Russia out of the financial market as much as possible. Microsoft is focusing on new sales, leaving existing contracts untouched.
Cybersecurity support
Microsoft is currently taking an additional measure against Russia. Smith shared that the company has been co-supporting Ukraine’s cyber security since the attack began, “Since the beginning of the war, we have taken action against Russian positioning, destructive or disruptive measures against more than 20 Ukrainian government, IT and financial sector organizations. We also took action against cyber attacks on several other civilian sites. On these, we publicly expressed our concern that these attacks on civilians violate the Geneva Convention.”
