Generate AI images in Google Docs soon

Soon you will be able to generate images directly in Google Docs with Imagen 3.

Google’s own AI model Gemini has allowed you to generate images for a while now. Recently, Google even made this service free for everyone. Now Google is announcing that it will soon let users generate images directly in Google Docs as well. So you can quickly and easily pimp your document, or have a unique cover image created with Gemini in Docs. The feature is rolling out to paying Google Workspace users.

Generating images in Docs

Do you often format texts with illustrations in Google Docs? Then this feature will definitely help you do so even faster. Google is introducing a new AI tool in Google Docs that allows you to have an image generated directly in your document. For this, Google deploys its text-to-image model Imagen 3.

Google Docs – Image generation with AI

To generate an image, go to Insert and Cover image. Then you can Help me create an image select. You will then see a prompt window where you can describe the image you want to generate. Afterwards, you can refine this image and add a style.

In addition, Gemini in Docs allows you to have a cover image generated for your document. To do this, select Help me create a cover image. You will again get a prompt window where you can describe the image.

Paying customers

This new AI feature was rolled out to Google Docs users in the “Rapid Release domain” on Friday, Nov. 15, 2024. From Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, the rollout will start to all other users in the “Scheduled Release domain.”
