Is the Apple Vision Pro the new innovation trigger for VR?

Apple has reduced the production of the Vision Pro due to low sales figures, according to analyst firm IDC.

Apple has scaled back production of the Vision Pro during the holidays due to limited sales, The Financial Times reports via market analysts. The analyst firm IDC estimates that Apple shipped around 45,000 new headsets in the fourth quarter of 2025. Apple has not yet released any sales figures itself.

Production scaled back

Last year in January, it already became clear that sales of the Apple Vision Pro would not be a great success. Production was already restricted at that time. During the fourth quarter of 2025, Apple relaunched the Vision Pro, this time with the updated M5 chip. That also proved unsuccessful, with only 45,000 headsets delivered. Apple is not the only one with low sales figures. The Meta Quest headsets also appear to be unsuccessful according to analysts.

Form factor

According to analysts, the low sales figures may be due to the form factor. The Vision Pro is said to be uncomfortable with prolonged use. In addition, there are too few apps, making the headset less interesting to use. As a result, developers will also create fewer apps, creating a vicious circle.

The Apple Vision Pro is only available in America and a limited number of other countries, for a hefty price tag of 3,500 dollars.
