The FOD Financiën is currently being hit by a cyberattack. MyMinfin and other digital services have been taken offline as a precaution.
Anyone who wanted to view or file their tax return today will have to wait a while. The FOD Financiën appears to be the victim of a cyberattack. As a result, several digital systems, including MyMinfin, are down for an indefinite period. The exact cause and scale of the incident are still being investigated, but there appears to be no data breach.
Offline as a precaution
“Our services are currently investigating the concrete impact of the attack. As a precaution, MyMinfin and a few other services are temporarily unavailable. This measure helps limit the risks and makes it possible to carry out the necessary technical interventions to safeguard the security of our systems,” said FOD Financiën.
The tax authority also plans to grant “sufficient extension” for tax returns with specific types of income, for which the filing deadline normally expires on 31 October. The specific date will follow as soon as possible. “We are monitoring the situation closely and are doing everything we can to make the affected services available again as soon as possible,” FOD Financiën concluded.
Earlier this week, an external software supplier was also hit by a cyberattack, leaving more than 100 municipalities unable to sign digital documents.
