Hosting platform WordPress.com is getting an AI website builder that creates complete websites based on text prompts.
The free AI website builder generates a working WordPress site based on a text prompt. The feature is aimed at any user who needs an online presence, WordPress writes in an announcement.
Works with Simple Prompts
Users simply type in a description such as: “Create a website for my coffee shop“, to have the tool build a website. The more specific the prompt, the better the result. Afterwards, users can request modifications through the same chat interface or make manual adjustments themselves.
Not Yet for Advanced Sites
The AI tool is currently only suitable for simple websites. For complex websites such as web shops, human knowledge of code and layout is still needed. However, this could change quickly, as the AI learns from the adjustments users make to their sites.
New users get 30 free prompts to try out the AI builder. Those who want to publish their site must choose a hosting plan. WordPress requires AI users to take at least the Premium subscription ($96 per year) or the Business subscription ($300 per year). These packages include storage space, a free domain name, access to premium themes, and customer support.
Combination of AI Models
The AI runs partly on local open-source models and partly on externally hosted AI systems. Now WordPress can compete with companies like SquareSpace and Wix, which have been offering AI-powered website builders for longer.
The new tool is only available for setting up new websites, not for existing WordPress sites.
