Qnap’s new PCIe 4.0 cards offer storage expansion up to 4.6 petabytes for NAS systems.

Qnap has introduced two new PCIe expansion cards for storage expansion via SAS. The QXP-830S-3808 and QXP-1630S-3816 are designed for business NAS environments that require scalable storage capacity.

Up to 4.6 Petabytes of Additional Storage

The new cards enable connecting TL SAS JBOD units to Qnap NAS systems via a PCIe 4.0 interface. The dual-port QXP-830S-3808 supports expansion up to 2.3 petabytes. The quad-port QXP-1630S-3816 doubles that to a maximum of 4.6 petabytes. The precise capacity depends on the NAS model.

Both cards support a SAS 12Gb/s connection and are designed for compact installation. The physical dimensions are 123.9 mm by 68.9 mm. Thanks to the use of PCIe Gen 4 x8, companies can expect higher data throughput. This is relevant for applications such as backups, virtualization, or media production.

Availability in 2026

The dual-port QXP-830S-3808 will be available in early 2026. The quad-port QXP-1630S-3816 is already available. A prerequisite for use is a Qnap NAS with one of the following operating systems: QTS 5.2.5.3145, QuTS hero h5.2.5.3138, or QES 20250306-2.2.1.2220. Qnap has not yet announced pricing.
