New AMD Radeon Pro W6000-GPUs coming to desktop and mobile workstations

AMD is introducing new additions to the Radeon Pro W6000 family. There will be a new entry-level version for the desktop, and mobile workstations will also get new cards.

AMD is launching three new professional graphics cards in the Radeon Pro W6000 series. The three GPUs are based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture, which, among other things, supports hardware raytracing. The architecture forms the basis of AMD’s modern discrete GPUs but also recently found its way into APUs for laptops and even chips for cell phones.

First up is the AMD Radeon Pro W6400 for desktop. With that card, AMD wants to offer professional graphics capabilities at a competitive price point. We don’t know a euro price yet, but the GPU would launch at $229 which is indeed quite low for a Pro gpu. The card is compact to fit into small enclosures. The card is said to perform up to three times better than its predecessor according to AMD itself.

Mobile cards

For mobile workstations, AMD is introducing the Radeon Pro W6500M and W6300M. Again, these are entry to midrange models built to support professional software on laptops. AMD explains that the cards come with up to 8 MB of AMD Infinity Cache.

The AMD Radeon Pro W6400 will still be available this quarter. For the mobile cards, availability is more unclear. AMD hints that laptop manufacturers will incorporate the GPUs into mobile workstations this year
