M4 Mac mini struggles with USB-C connectivity problem

It seems that the USB-C connectors on the M4 Mac mini are causing problems for some users.

AppleInsider has found that users are experiencing similar problems with the M4 Mac mini. The hardware they connect via USB-C suddenly becomes disconnected and unusable, or simply does not connect.

Tricky to determine cause

The non-working hardware ranges from USB-C keyboards to USB 3 docks and KVM switches. Only the front USB-C ports would work decently, but the rear ones proved useless. After physically disconnecting the hardware, all worked fine again. Complaints are also pouring in on the official Apple Support Forum.

USB-C has become the standard for modern devices, and is now mandatory for all devices in Europe. Problems with connectivity, however, remain a recurring theme. The cause here is difficult to determine, however, as there are a number of variables at play.

While this may be fixable with a software update from Apple, users can also take steps themselves to identify and fix the problem. Often it is due to damaged or unofficial cables. Using a USB hub with power delivery can solve the limited power capacity per USB-C port.
