A digital stylus that lets you work in VR and AR? The Logitech MX Ink offers a solution to work more creatively in virtual environments.

Mixed reality, a combination of virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), is a medium that is struggling to get off the ground. With the likes of the Meta Quest series and the Apple Vision Pro, it remains difficult to break into the niche. Meanwhile, the Logitech MX Ink stylus adds an interesting new interaction for creative professionals.

Does anyone remember the hilariously overpriced Logitech VR Ink Pilot Edition? 900 euros for a VR stylus was a bit over the top. Five years later, there’s the MX Ink at a much more democratic price ($129). Logitech wants the pen to create the feeling as if you were virtually holding a pencil or brush. Much more intuitive than the classic VR controllers that come bundled with such glasses (or failing that at Apple).

Thanks to 6dof tracking, the pen works for both 2D and 3D creations in mixed reality. The stylus weighs 29 grams, haptic feedback and a pressure-sensitive button for sketching or manipulating models.

The Logitech MX Ink has a seven-hour battery life and charges via a USB-C connection. You can also buy the stylus with a docking station at $169. A large low-friction mat (MX Mat) designed specifically for the MX Ink costs $59.

Logitech is tapping into a new market here after gaining experience with the extremely expensive VR Ink Pilot Edition. Competitor Wacom wanted to conquer that market five years ago with a specific pen in combination with the Magic Leap. Due to disappointing sales, the project was put on hold.

The Logitech MX Ink is now available in the US. For now, it is not clear if the VR stylus will also come to Europe.
