Windows Admin Center gets improved cluster support and logging functionality

windows 11

The new version of Windows Admin Center brings many installation improvements, such as improved logging functionality and management capabilities for virtual machines.

Microsoft makes version 2511 of Windows Admin Center (WAC) generally available. The update restores support for high availability deployments and introduces improved logging functionality and management capabilities for virtual machines.

Installation improvements

A key change in version 2511 is the restoration of the ability to install Windows Admin Center in a failover cluster. Microsoft has improved the silent installation mode, allowing administrators to more easily automatically install WAC via the command line, with clear logging.

Installation information is now automatically written to the Windows Event Log. This simplifies central monitoring, compliance, and troubleshooting. Microsoft has also released new documentation for updating or restoring certificates, following backend changes since version 2410.

Version 2511 also resolves an issue that prevented migration for users of version 2410 or later. An error in language processing in certificate management was the cause. Installation errors on Windows Server 2022 and older versions have also been resolved.

Updates to virtual machines and RDP functionality

This version brings several improvements to tools within WAC. For example, the workflows around importing and exporting virtual machines have been adjusted. Administrators now have more options when configuring hosts and virtual networks, including better validation. The management of affinity rules has also been improved. The user interface responds faster and shows clearer error messages.

The Remote Desktop tool in WAC now supports more than thirty international keyboard layouts, including German, French, and Japanese. Input detection has been refined. A bug that caused the RDP tool to crash during loading has also been resolved, resulting in faster startup and more reliable connections.

Furthermore, the update includes new security tools for Windows Server 2025, improvements to software-defined networking and the VM conversion tool, as well as updates to partner extensions. More details are available in the official announcement from Microsoft.
