“Emergency Update” Windows 11 Causes more Problems than it Solves

An additional patch that Microsoft rolled out to address a bug in the June update seems to be causing more new problems than it was supposed to solve.

Microsoft rolled out the monthly Patch Tuesday update for Windows 11 last week. Problems usually don’t take long to appear in the first days after the rollout, but now it’s mainly a follow-up update that’s causing issues. “Emergency update” KB5063060 is causing all kinds of problems, from a damaged taskbar to Explorer freezing.

The update was sent out after the June update of Windows 11 caused compatibility issues with games that use software to prevent cheating. If you don’t play games on your PC, there’s no reason to install the optional update in the first place. It quickly became apparent that the update itself doesn’t play fair either.

Taskbar, Explorer, and Bluetooth

According to PC World, Windows users are reporting various problems with the update, which can also be unrelated to games. The update gives different error codes during installation, and afterwards it can damage the taskbar or cause Windows Explorer to freeze. Some users report that Windows no longer recognizes Bluetooth devices.

It’s best to stay away from the KB5063060 update for now. On the other hand, it is useful to install the security update KB5060842 on your PC. The update closes 66 vulnerabilities at once, two of which are actively being exploited.
