The annual Windows update is available in the Windows Release Channel.
Windows 11 25H2 is almost generally available. Microsoft has announced that it’s making the annual Windows 11 update available in the preview release channel. This is the final step before the general rollout.
What’s Changing?
Not much is changing with this release compared to version 24H2. This is because Windows 11 version 25H2 is being offered as an enablement package (eKB). Microsoft is temporarily setting future new features to inactive until they are activated by a later update. The goal is to make Windows more stable and implement continuous improvements through monthly updates.
Focus on Compatibility and Smooth Installation
Most features have already been rolled out over the past year, which should ensure minimal differences in compatibility. All apps should therefore work without issues when you implement the upgrade. This would be a significant improvement compared to 24H2, which caused various problems.
Some features have been removed: PowerShell 2.0 and the Windows Management Instrumentation Command-line (WMIC) tool have been completely phased out. Probably because few people used them. Additionally, IT administrators in business or educational environments can remove pre-installed Microsoft Store apps via group policy.
When Available?
Looking at the release of Windows 11 24H2, 25H2 will likely be generally available in late September or early October. Windows Insiders can already start using it if their devices meet the hardware requirements. Business users utilizing the Windows Insider for Business program can already validate the PCs in their company for version 25H2.
