Slack AI Subscription No Longer Optional from July 17

slack ai

Slack enables AI features by default for business users and increases subscription price from July 17. There’s not much time left to opt out.

Slack began rolling out AI features for paid subscriptions a year ago. Under the name Slack AI, the business chat app bundles AI-powered features such as summarizing conversations or having messages typed. Slack believes companies have had enough time to voluntarily enable AI and is now opting for a more aggressive approach.

On July 17, Slack AI will be enabled by default for all paid plans, from the Pro subscription to the most expensive Enterprise+. The company confirms this via its Help Center. Users can still escape the AI subscription, but they need to take action today.

Enabling Slack AI is done with a simple setting via the admin center, but unsubscribing is less straightforward. For this, you need to send an email to Slack’s customer service. You won’t get an immediate response, and you can’t track your request through your account. The deadline for this is July 17, which is tomorrow.

Mandatory AI

Like many AI service providers, Slack is opting for the forced adoption tactic. The use of AI tools is no longer a voluntary choice but a requirement. Those who don’t want it must figure out how to opt out on their own.

The addition of AI features also comes with a price increase. The monthly or annual cost of Business+ and Enterprise+ subscriptions will increase. This is regardless of whether you subscribe to Slack AI or not. Even those who unsubscribe will have to pay more. From August 17, Slack will disable the add-on for the AI bundle.
