Signal launches scheduled voice messages in Android app

Signal has recently released new versions of its messaging app, implementing various improvements for both Android and iOS users.

WhatsApp alternative Signal adds improvements and new features for Android and iOS users. In addition to scheduled voice messages for Android users, iOS users can now use the iOS media viewer, making it easier to navigate between images and videos. Furthermore, the focus is mainly on improving the functionality and security of the app.

Scheduled voice messages

The latest version of Signal for Android includes the ability to send scheduled voice messages. This allows users to record voice messages and automatically send them at a later time, which is useful for planning birthday wishes, for example. Additionally, the app’s accessibility has been improved, and various minor bugs have been fixed. The app also includes a new network stack, which contributes to overall stability.

Another addition is the ability to quickly view all groups you share with a specific contact. This makes it easier to verify a contact’s identity. Martin Bartenberger, Head of Communication Europe at Signal, emphasizes that these improvements also contribute to increasing awareness about phishing attacks. Signal aims to help users verify conversation requests from unknown contacts.

iOS users

For iOS users, there is an improvement in media selection, among other things. Signal now uses the iOS media viewer, making it easier to navigate through images and videos. Users can jump directly to the message containing a specific image or video. Additionally, various minor bugs have been fixed in the iOS version.

The new versions of Signal (Android version 7.41 and iOS version 7.57) also include preparatory steps for the introduction of end-to-end encrypted backups. This feature will be available to all users of the app in the future.
