According to the CEO of Salesforce, Microsoft has disappointed everyone with their approach to AI.
Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff has strongly criticized Microsoft’s approach to AI, specifically targeting their Copilot software. According to Benioff, Microsoft has “disappointed everyone” with their approach.
Lots of criticism
In a recent episode of The Bartlett Show Benioff called Microsoft’s Copilot a repackaging of OpenAI put into Excel without innovation. He emphasized that customers hardly use Copilot unless they already have a ChatGPT license. “It simply does not provide the intelligence that companies need,” Benioff said.
Benioff went further by stating that many customers who had worked with Copilot did not even notice that AI was incorporated into the product. “They don’t see any added value,” he said. The CEO even recently threw up a comparison to Microsoft’s infamous Clippy assistant, calling Copilot “nothing more than a modern version of an old failure.”

Salesforce, meanwhile, is positioning itself as the largest AI vendor for businesses. According to Benioff, their Agentforce, launched on Dreamforce, can process billions of AI transactions per week. For that assertion, he has enthusiastic customer feedback to back it up: “This must be magic.” So he sees Microsoft’s recent rebranding of Copilot to agents as more of a panic reaction.
