Microsoft is soon completely removing PowerShell 2.0 from Windows 11. Users and administrators must switch to a newer version.
Switch to 5.0
In the latest Windows 11 Insider Preview Build, PowerShell 2.0 is already disappearing from the test version. Microsoft has already labeled PowerShell 2.0 as outdated since Windows 10 version 1709. The company is now reiterating the warning that support is ending. In an upcoming update for Windows 11, the outdated version will disappear permanently.

PowerShell is an important tool for automation and management in Windows. According to Microsoft, the switch to PowerShell 5.0 or higher is necessary to avoid security and compatibility issues. Organizations that still use applications or scripts that depend on PowerShell 2.0 must adjust them.
Other Changes
In addition to removing PowerShell 2.0, the new Insider Preview Build fixes some errors. For example, the Reset this PC option works again and the taskbar has been visually restored. Problems with language display and fonts have also been addressed. Users will also notice improvements in File Explorer, Settings, and Task Manager.
The change currently only applies to Insiders in the Canary channel. The final removal will follow later this year for all Windows 11 users. Microsoft will share more information in the coming months about the disappearance of PowerShell 2.0 in a larger general Windows 11 update.
