Mandatory e-invoicing via Peppol has been a fact since January 1, 2026. Adoption is increasing, but regional differences are emerging.
On January 1, 2026, mandatory e-invoicing via Peppol officially started. Many Belgian VAT-registered companies have registered in time, but not all organizations have jumped on the Peppol train. Although the FPS Finance is allowing a period of tolerance, it is advisable not to postpone registration any longer.
According to figures from Peppolcheck.be, the adoption of Peppol has increased sharply in recent months, but with large regional differences.

Adoption is increasing
We see a clear increase in registrations during the last month of 2025. Many companies stepped up their efforts just before the deadline of January 1, 2026. According to the latest figures on December 29, 2025, there are 940,354 Peppol registrations.

That is already a large number, but not all companies have jumped on the Peppol train yet. Especially for small businesses, switching to e-invoicing is often not easy. The Limburg association BARGE recently offered an alternative for small businesses called Let’s Peppol. This service focuses on basic functionality: incoming and outgoing Peppol invoices and overview.
Regional differences
Although the adoption of Peppol has seen a clear increase in recent months, there is a noticeable difference between the regions in Belgium. The majority of Peppol registrations are located in the province of Flanders. Adoption in Brussels and Wallonia is rather low.

When we look at some major Access Point providers, we see that CodaBox is leading with around 261,000 registrations. Billit and Storecove also score high with approximately 147,000 registrations.
