OpenAI gives its closest developers access to the o1 reasoning model in the API.
On day nine of the “12 days of OpenAI,” the company is putting its closest developers on notice. Indeed, OpenAI’s reasoning model o1 will be coming to the API. Not all developers will have access to this. Developers must have spent at least $1,000 with OpenAI and have an account older than 30 days since their first payment. In addition, OpenAI is also introducing new tools for developers that improve performance, flexibility and cost efficiency.
o1 to API
OpenAI is giving its closest developers access to the o1 model’s API. Until now, only the o1 preview version was available to developers. In an earlier package announcement, the company rolled out its o1 model to all users.
OpenAI is also introducing new tools for developers that improve performance, flexibility and cost efficiency. This includes real-time API updates including easy WebRTC integration, a 60 percent price reduction for GPT-4o audio as well as support for GPT-5o mini at one-tenth of previous audio speeds.

In addition, OpenAI also offers its developers a new technique that should make it easier to adjust models based on user and developer preferences (preference fine-tuning). Finally, new Go and Java SDKs are available in beta.
These announcements are part of the “12 days of OpenAI,” in which the company makes an announcement every day for 12 days. Three days to go.
