OpenAI launches canvas, a new interface for ChatGPT that allows users to easily perform operations in a new window.
OpenAI introduces a new interface for ChatGPT. Canvas, built with GPT-4o, focuses primarily on creative projects and coding. With an additional virtual workspace, users can now easily run edits and revisions on their project, and easily retrieve previous versions.
This new interface is already available in beta for ChatGPT Plus and Team users. Starting next week, Enterprise and Edu users will have their turn and will also have access to Canvas.
Canvas ChatGPT
ChatGPT gets a new look. With canvas, OpenAI creates a virtual workspace that focuses on creative writing and coding projects. Canvas opens in a new window divided into two parts. The first part contains the text or code the user is working on; the second part is a sidebar that displays the user’s ChatGPT prompts and responses. To open canvas, you can type “use canvas.” In addition, it also activates automatically when the bot recognizes that canvas is useful with your request.
Creative work and coding
The new interface canvas is primarily intended for creative projects or coding that require regular edits or revisions. This allows you to highlight specific parts to indicate what ChatGPT should focus on. The bot then provides feedback and suggestions, and has the entire project in mind for this purpose.

Moreover, you can manage the project in canvas, where you can apply edits directly. Still not satisfied? Then it is possible to retrieve previous versions with a simple button in canvas. Moreover, you are presented with a menu of shortcuts to adjust the writing length, debug code or perform other actions.
Programmers are also presented with a lot of options with canvas. For example, they can have certain code checked in this new interface, add comments, fix bugs or convert code to another programming language, including JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C++ or PHP.
Canvas rollout will be gradual, with an initial beta version available for ChatGPT Plus and Team users. Enterprise and Edu subscriptions will follow after that.
