Microsoft is installing the new Outlook client on Windows 10 with an update that cannot be refused. The old version will remain.
Microsoft wants to get as many users as possible on the new version of Outlook for Windows starting this year. Windows 10 will have its turn this month. On Jan. 28, Microsoft will bring the new Outlook to Windows 10, and the update will become more widely available in February. The update cannot be refused.

Old and new
According to Microsoft, there is no intention that the new Outlook client will replace the old one. Both versions will continue to coexist. Installing the new Outlook will also not change the settings and configuration of the old version, Microsoft confirmed in a message to admins.
The installation of the new Outlook client cannot be stopped, but there is the option to uninstall the app again. In PowerShell, enter the Remove- command.AppxProvisionedPackage -AllUsers -Online -PackageName (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.OutlookForWindows).PackageFullName out. You should also remove the reg value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE_SOFTWAREMicrosoft.OutlookForWindowsUpdateOutlookUpdate add.
Next, add a REG_SZ registry setting called BlockedOobeUpdaters, with the value [“MS_Outlook”]. This ensures that Windows updates do not reinstall the new Outlook.
Delay in not cancellation
Delay is not a cancellation in this case. The old version of Outlook will continue to exist alongside the new version until at least 2029. For Windows 10, the end is much closer: support expires in October. That won’t stop Microsoft from continuing to roll out new features to Windows 10, which remains very popular.
The new version of Outlook does not yet manage to convince. The new version lacks functionality and stability. The switch is especially useful for Microsoft: the new Outlook is a Web-based application. The desktop and Web versions are therefore more closely linked, which simplifies maintenance for Microsoft.
