Microsoft launches new AI tool that supports multimodal data

Microsoft is launching a new AI service that turns unstructured data into meaningful insights.

At Ignite 2024, Microsoft is introducing Azure AI Content Understanding. This new AI service is said to be groundbreaking, and can understand unstructured data such as images, videos, audio and documents and turn them into meaningful insights. With this, Microsoft aims to make generative AI more accessible. Microsoft Azure AI Content Understanding is available in public preview.

From data to insights

Azure AI Content Understanding can understand, process and transform unstructured data into meaningful insights. “This new AI service is built from the ground up for generative AI, allowing organizations to seamlessly build GenAI solutions with the latest available models, without the need for specialized AI skills such as prompt engineering,” Microsoft writes. Companies can get more value from their data as a result.

Based on pre-built schemas, Content Understanding can extract information from unstructured data. Moreover, those schemas can be further customized to obtain the desired data. For example, Azure AI Content Understanding can help companies extract analytics on call center or recorded meeting data, or manage media items when creating content.

In addition, Microsoft claims that the overall cost for companies to develop AI applications will decrease significantly. “By using confidence scores to trigger human review only when needed, the overall cost of processing content is minimized,” Microsoft writes.
