Microsoft 365 Gets Taskbar Apps in Windows 11

The new Microsoft 365 apps provide quick access to contacts, files, and calendar via the taskbar.

Microsoft is rolling out new taskbar apps this month for business users of Microsoft 365 on Windows 11. The three small apps start automatically and offer quick access to contacts, files, and calendar from the taskbar.

Contacts, Files, and Meetings

The Contacts app lets you search for colleagues via an organizational chart. You can immediately send an email or start a Teams call. The Files app helps you find files in OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, or Outlook, with search options by name, author, or keyword. A preview and sharing options are included.

The Calendar app shows your Microsoft 365 calendar with one click. You can view upcoming appointments, search for meetings, and join online meetings directly.

Automatic installation

Microsoft tested the apps in beta over the past months, and they are generally available starting this month. If you have Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 11, the taskbar apps will be added automatically. IT administrators can block the installation, and users can decide whether the apps should start automatically.

This seems like a handy addition, but users would also like to see an automatic backup feature in Microsoft 365. If you don’t set it manually, you will lose your files.
