Meta gives AI chatbot more personalization features

Meta is rolling out a new version of its AI chatbot that can adjust its responses to info the user brings along.

Meta explains in a blog exactly what the new features of the Meta AI mean. The AI assistant has similar functions to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and can, for example, search the Web or translate a text.

Personalization

Meta AI now adjusts its responses based on information users share in Messenger or WhatsApp conversations. If you ask for a nearby restaurant and say you are vegan, the chatbot takes that into account and suggests a vegan restaurant next time. Meta says the chatbot remembers only a few details from 1-on-1 conversations. Users can clear Meta AI’s memory at any time. The feature is only available in the U.S. and Canada on Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp for iOS and Android for now.

The second new feature focuses on in-depth personalization, using personal information to generate answers. The chatbot can respond to the request to look up concerts based on the user’s location. Meta can also access other data, such as the genre of music videos the user watched that week. This feature is not coming to WhatsApp. However, users of Facebook, Messenger and Instagram in the U.S. and Canada can use it.
