JavaScript users work extensively with React but are less satisfied with it

React remains the most widely used front-end framework from JavaScript. Only, developer satisfaction with React is declining.

JavaScript surveyed its users on how they perceived the scripting language in 2021. About 16,000 developers completed all or part of the survey. JavaScript summarized the results in State of JavaScript 2021.

React intensively used

The majority of respondents (80%) said they work with React. The front-end framework has long been the most widely used from the JavaScript range. Angular (54%) and Vue.js (51%) were also found to be heavily used.

Despite React’s popularity, satisfaction with the front-end framework is declining. In 2021, developers were most satisfied with Solid and Svelte, both of which carry a satisfaction score of 90 percent. React underperformed with a satisfaction score of 84 percent.

That result is given added strength by a downward trend in interest. React had to make do with fourth place this year, 48 percent of developers interested in the front-end framework. Svelte (68%) and Solid (56%) again fared better, as did Vue.js (50%).

Overall satisfied

Most respondents reported being generally satisfied or even very satisfied with the overall state of JavaScript.

Knowledge of the scripting language is a plus with a lot of employers in Europe. The fact that developers are satisfied with JavaScript is important in this regard.
