Starting May 1, Google will automatically migrate users with outdated G Suite accounts to Workspace. As a result, the individual 15 GB storage will be replaced with pooled storage.
Do you still have a free G Suite account, the predecessor of Workspace? You may soon lose the benefits of individual storage allocation, as reported by The Verge based on an obtained email. Google is said to be informing users with the old free G Suite subscription that they must switch to pooled storage “shared with all users within your organization” starting May 1.
Storage Space
Until 2020, the well-known Google Workspace was still G Suite. Users with old G Suite accounts could enjoy individual storage allocation. This includes 15 GB of free allocated storage space for personal use, which is suitable for families or groups sharing a collective domain.

According to Google, pooled storage is a ‘simpler and more flexible way to manage storage’. “Google Workspace customers have benefited from pooled storage for years, and now we’re rolling it out to users with this legacy offering,” Google spokesperson Jenny Thomson told The Verge.
Transition
Google informs that users do not need to take any action to make the transition. Moreover, users cannot opt out of the transition to pooled storage. Furthermore, the total amount of storage space within the G Suite account would not be reduced. If more storage space is needed, it can be purchased “at a discount”. It is not clear exactly how big this discount will be.
There is also still the possibility to set storage limits for each user in the G Suite account. This is to prevent the collective storage pool from being used by individual users.
