Google Will Develop Android OS Behind Closed Doors Starting Next Week
Until now, Google had no secrets regarding the development of its Android OS operating system. The Android Open Source Project (AOSP) made most of the work visible to the public. Now it appears that Google is closing its doors to the outside world and will continue to develop the operating system internally. “All Android development will take place within Google’s internal facilities,” the company confirmed to Android Authority.

Google has recently taken several steps towards a more internal approach to developing its operating system. Most parts of Android have already been developed behind closed doors in Google’s “internal facilities” lately. As a result, the “AOSP branch” only contains certain other aspects of the Android framework.
This means that the status of AOSP has not been in sync with Google’s internal builds for some time. Developers will now have to wait until Google makes a public release to see all changes.
Google would not change anything about the speed at which new builds are released with this internal change. Moreover, this does not mean that the developments of Android OS will no longer be open source.

Android users will notice virtually nothing of these changes. App developers are also unlikely to be affected. An official announcement would take place “later this week”.
