Google wants to bring Android to PCs under the name Aluminum OS

Google wants to bring Android to PCs by bundling it with Chrome OS, presumably under the new name Aluminum OS.

Google plans to merge its Android operating system with Chrome OS under the name Aluminum OS. With this, the tech giant wants to bring Android to PCs and offer one uniform operating system. Android already powers smartphones, tablets, TVs, cars, watches, and XR headsets today. Soon, PCs may be added to this list. The merger should make the operating system stronger to compete against Apple and Windows, among others.

Aluminum OS

Google has had plans for some time to rename Android to an integrated desktop operating system, Android Authority reported some time ago. The tech magazine also saw a job posting appear at Google that is two months old, in which the code name Aluminum OS appeared. The vacancy has since been taken offline.

This offer describes that “the team will be responsible for creating a portfolio of ChromeOS and Aluminum operating systems.” In addition, the team must develop a strategy to “transition Google from ChromeOS to Aluminum.”

Whether this means that Chromebooks will get a new operating system or that ChromeOS will come to an end, will become clear when Google reveals details. Google has been sitting with this idea for some time, but the published vacancy suggests that action is now really being taken.
