GitHub integrates GPT-5.2-Codex into new development environments

GitHub Copilot users can now start using GPT-5.2-Codex in Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse.

GitHub is making GPT-5.2-Codex available in various popular development environments via GitHub Copilot. The AI model can be used in Visual Studio (from versions 17.14.19 and 18.0.0), JetBrains IDEs (from version 1.5.61), Xcode (from version 0.45.0), and Eclipse (from version 0.13.0). All standard Copilot modes are supported: ask, edit, and agent.

Opt-in

Availability applies to users of Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise. Organizations using Copilot Business or Enterprise must manually activate access to GPT-5.2-Codex in the settings. Only after this opt-in will the new version appear in the model selector within Copilot.

With this expansion, GitHub aims to give developers the ability to use their own AI functionality directly within their familiar tools. OpenAI introduced Codex in May of last year.
