OpenAI brings custom instructions to ChatGPT so users can choose how the chatbot responds.
OpenAI is introducing a new change to its chatbot ChatGPT at X. Users can now choose how the chatbot responds to queries, and what features it should have, in the custom instructions. These custom instructions are being rolled out to Windows and the Web first, with mobile and macOS following after that.
Custom instructions
“We’ve updated custom instructions to make it easier to customize how ChatGPT responds to you. With the new user interface, you can tell ChatGPT what properties you want it to have, how you want it to talk to you and what rules you want it to follow,” OpenAI said on X.
OpenAI gave some examples to Thurrott in which the custom instructions could be useful. When you engage ChatGPT to build personal goals, you can customize that the chatbot talks to you in an encouraging tone. But even in a professional setting, when you’re a marketing specialist deploying ChatGPT for campaigns on social media, you can ask the chatbot to provide answers in creative and concise language.
These custom instructions in ChatGPT are currently being rolled out for Windows devices and on the web. For mobile and macOS, it will appear in the coming weeks. In addition, users in the EU, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland are also waiting. There, the feature is expected “soon.
