Apple is refreshing the TestFlight platform in an effort to give developers more control over their betas. It should also make the experience more pleasant for testers.

Apple is revamping its Testflight platform. Both developers and testers can look forward to improvements. More control and more attractive invitations take center stage.

Developers will have the option to invite testers in a more targeted way. For example, they can specify criteria such as device type or OS version. That should ensure that the most relevant devices are covered during beta testing. TestFlight allows a maximum of 10,000 invitations for testers, so it helps when those go out the door more targeted.

App developers will further have access to data about their invitations. This allows them to find out how many people saw the invitation, how many accepted it, and how many potential testers did not get in because they did not meet the predefined criteria.

More interesting invitations

Once an app is approved by Apple, it will further be possible to add screenshots. Invitations will also be better structured so that interesting new features of a beta are more prominent. That should warm up potential testers to effectively download a beta version of an app. If users don’t feel inclined to participate in a beta after an invitation, they can leave feedback about it.
